My Very Own Snuggie

A couple weeks ago I had a discussion on one of my favorite "As Seen On TV" gimmicks.

But well before the Bump It, I saw "Snuggie, The Blanket With Sleeves." And I thought the idea seemed like it was overdue. Because seriously have you tried to hold a blanket while doing simple household tasks like reading your child a book or preparing a cup of hot chocolate...

The reason it seems overdue is because the Snuggie's predecessors have been around since the 18th century. It is called a bathrobe people! The Snuggie secret is to wear it backwards because then it is more like a blanket. I guess it is okay if my derriere gets a draft...

But for 19.99 (plus 15.98 shipping and handling) you can have NOT ONE, BUT TWO with two free book lights.

Snuggie describes the fabric as being "super soft, thick, luxurious fleece," while Matt Lauer and Al Roker said it was NOT something that occured in nature and was subject to catching fire should one get too close to an open flame.

The commentary on the Snuggie that really gets me though, is from Ad Age.

And something about the Snuggie just matches the spirit of the times. "It's a tremendous value in today's tough economic times," Mr. Boilen said. "In this type of economy, people are looking for a value, and this is certainly a value at the price point. ... People are staying home more, and it makes them feel good.

Nothing says value like purchasing some creepy flamable bathrobe that will not be delivered for 4-6 weeks--because it is always so hard to stay warm come April 1.

But don't worry I won't have to deal with being cold while reading a book or dealing with a slippery blanket anytime soon. And since mine is actually a bathrobe I have the added value of being able to wear it with the opening in the front or the back, or even, gasp, tying it closed. Oooh. Fancy!

Ha ha. That's awesome! :) Traci and I just watched a thingy on cnn about them. I had never heard of them before that. It looks like a really silly business idea to me.

Hey, I have a bathrobe, but I have never thought about wearing it like a Snuggie. You're a genius!
